As business owners, we need a clear target to aim for both personally and within the business – let’s face it, the two go hand in hand. Dreaming of a wonderful two-week holiday in the sun, a new car, or purely spending more quality time with our families & friends, we need to have a personal goal and take time to figure out how to achieve it.
It's incredibly easy to get bogged down with the day-to-day job, so taking that step back and reviewing the business becomes difficult, overwhelming and often put to the bottom of the pile. However, to develop, grow and achieve what we want, this is a must. By knowing exactly what you want to achieve, you’ll then realise where you need to concentrate your efforts and you’ll spot the distractions too during this process.
Take time to sit down and think about what exactly you want to achieve and write it down, so you feel more committed to what you’ve set out. Ensure the goals are SMART – specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. This will enable you to visualise the results.
Next, it’s planning each step you need to take in order to reach each one. Goal setting is an extremely powerful process and will enable you to bring your dreams and hopes into reality.
I, myself, am completely guilty of getting the job done for my clients that my business has become just that. Recently I have taken that step back and thought about my personal goals and how I am going to set about achieving them. My goals are to get more precious time back and going on holiday without my laptop!
I also want to scale-up the business at the same time. But how can I do this? I am delighted to announce I’ll be employing my first member of staff during the next few weeks. It’s been a difficult decision for me, but a vital part of growing my business and allowing me that time back to market and grow the business and spending more time doing the things I want to do. The job advert is out, five interviews are lined up so I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I am also spending vital time reviewing my software and processes and have everything in a system rather than in my head!
So, roll on 2023...I've made my plan for next year, have you?
